Terming it "a rarest of the rare case", a sessions court in Saharanpur district has sentenced a 28-year-old man to death in connection with a honour killing case.

The Additional District Sessions judge Ram Kesh Singh found Bhura guilty of murdering his sister Mohbina (24) and her lover Ashvani (26) in Kolakheri Village in Saharanpur district on November 4 last year.

The court yesterday awarded capital punishment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 under section 302 IPC on Bhura who shot the couple dead after being upset with their relationship, the prosecution said.

Ashvani's body was later dumped in a well and the girl was buried in a grave yard, it said.

Police arrested Bhura after registering a case against him under sections 302 and 201 of IPC.

The verdict, however, is subject to confirmation by the Allahabad High Court.
