Raj groom gets ‘dummy’ wife for a price, is kidnapped & brutalised for demanding his money back.

How far would you go to get yourself a wife?

A Banjara youth’s desire to tie the knot ended up in physical and metal trauma after he was kidnapped, confined, caged and sodomised on orders of a Khap Panchayat in Haryana, where he was ‘sold’ a bride for Rs3 lakh.

The interesting part: The wife turned out to be a dummy and disappeared with his money. He  was later rescued by family members, but only after they shelled out another Rs50,000.

A case was registered against four accused Shankar Nath, Dilip Nath, Arjun Nath and Chhotu Nath under IPC sections 147 and 377 at the Deedwana police station following the intervention of a local court.

According to police, one Shyopath Nath 22, paid Rs3 lakh  to two men, Shankar Nath and Dilip Nath, the main accused in the case, for helping arrange the marriage by getting him a bride. The money reportedly changed hands at the GCJ Senior Secondary School in October, 2013.

However, when accused failed to find a girl  for some time, the victim demanded his money back. In November, the accused called the victim over to Aode village in Sirsa district of Haryana where they reportedly handed over a girl to him and congratulated him for finally getting a wife.

“Before I could reach home, they abducted me and took me back to Sirsa,” the victim said.  The girl reportedly went missing by then.

When the man asked for his money, the panchayat ordered that he be punished. He was caged and paraded on a donkey. No arrests have been made yet.

According to victim, he was subjected to inhuman torture for three months.

“I was made to drink my urine daily and was kept in a cage for three months like an animal,” he said in his complaint.

According to the police, the eyewitnesses are being examined, “He was taken in by the community members as he had come with a female of their community,” Birdi Lal, the cop investigating the case said.
