A man has been sentenced to eight years in jail by a Delhi court for repeatedly raping his 12-year-old daughter last year.
Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay Garg held Delhi resident Man Singh Thapa guilty of raping his daughter, dismissing his claim that he was 70 years old and could not have committed the offence as he has turned impotent due to his age.
"It is a case of incest as the girl is real daughter of the convict. As per the girl, the convict had raped her a number of times as and when he wished to do so.
"The convict, who is the father and and custodian of the girl, kept on raping her at his pleasure. It is not a case of isolated incident rather the convict sexually abused his daughter as and when he got opportunity," the court said.
According to prosecution, the girl with the help of her sister had approached the police in 2011 alleging that her father used to rape her and on resisting, he would beat her.
It said the girl's mother had died five years ago and since then she was residing with her sister and father, who was in the profession of white washing.
The girl had told the court that Thapa was in a habit of consuming alcohol daily and thereafter he would rape her as and when he desired. She had said after being fed up with her father's act, she disclosed about the incident to her neighbours, who suggested her to approach the police.
Thapa, in his defence, had said he was falsely implicated in the case by her daughter as she wanted to marry a boy, belonging to a different religion, and he was against it.
He had also claimed that he was 70-year-old and he could not have raped his daughter as he was unable to do sexual intercourse for past several years.
