A 50-year-old man was today arrested in connection with the alleged rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl, whose body was found here three days ago, police said.
The accused has been identified as Nand Kishor, who lives in the same area where the girl resided and he knew the girl, Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Vijay Yadav said.
Blood stains were found on Nand Kishor's clothes when he was caught, Yadav said adding that the the girl's face was damaged beyond recognition by him so that she could not be easily identified.
Further forensic tests are being conducted, police said.
The body of the girl was found near the residence of Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta in T T Nagar area.
Opposition Congress in Madhya Pradesh had held protest outside the minister's residence demanding that the killer of the girl be arrested.
