Man held for calling, threatening senior admin officers in UP

A person was arrested after complaints regarding anonymous calls being made to some senior administrative officers were received by the police here.

The caller, identified as Vakil from Anoopshahr town used to call the administrative officials from different numbers in the district and allegedly demanded money.

He used to threaten them with serious consequences if they fail to deliver the amount he asked, said SP (Rural) Jagdish Sharma.

Two Sub-Divisional Magistrates, one Tehsildar and Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) had been receiving such calls since February 28, police said.

According to PK Varshney (CVO) here, he received a call on his mobile where the caller demanded a sum of Rs 50 lakhs.

According to Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM)- Anoopshahr tehsil here, Bhairpal Singh, he was asked to deliver at a sum of Rs 10 lakhs.

The SDM of Dibai Tehsil- Subhash Chandra Yadav was asked to pay Rs 10 lakhs or face consequences.

A Tehsildar of Sikandrabad- Hiralal Sen too received a call on his mobile phone.

The caller abused him and demanded money, they said.

The calls were made from three different numbers. One of the phone numbers was traced to Anoopshahr town, and Vakil was nabbed by a police team.

He was arrested and sent to jail, said Sharma.
