A man has been handed down 10- year rigorous imprisonment (RI) by a local court in Indore, which found him guilty of raping a minor girl last year.

Nana Tanwar (25) was convicted by a Fast-Track Court, presided over by Additional Sessions Judge Savita Singh, on Friday. The court examined eight witnesses in the course of the trial, Additional Public Prosecutor Ravindra Desai told reporters.

In January 2013, Tanwar's parents went to the 14-year- old victim's residence here with a marriage proposal for their son. However, the girl's parents turned down the proposal, saying their daughter was still a minor, Desai said.

Two months later, Tanwar went to the girl's house and after finding her alone raped her. He threatened her with dire consequences if she reported the matter to anyone, he said. He later repeated the heinous act on several occasions. The minor finally mustered courage and narrated her ordeal to her parents, who reported the matter to police, leading to his arrest, Desai added.
