Man gets 10 years' jail for raping minor girl

A local court has awarded ten years' rigorous imprisonment to a man for raping a minor in her house last year.

Additional District and Sessions judge Madhu Khanna Lali convicted Ashish (22), a resident of Sham Nagar in Hisar, of rape on Wednesday and sentenced him to ten years' imprisonment.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him, and in case of default of payment of the fine the convict would further undergo imprisonment for six months.

Ashish was charged with rape under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), the public prosecutor said.

The incident occurred on April 15 last year, when the girl and her 5-year-old brother were alone at home.
