A passenger was briefly detained at the airport here for allegedly trying to carry a lighter in the aircraft by concealing it in a laptop, an official said today.

A senior official in the airport security said the incident was reported yesterday when a CISF security personnel detected the lighter in the hand baggage of a man who was to take a flight to Hyderabad.

The passenger, identified as F S Khan, had concealed the lighter in his laptop by putting it inside the CD drive slot, the official said.

The passenger was briefly detained and was let off after he furnished a written apology to security officials, he said.

Carrying fire items like lighter inside the aircraft is prohibited under Indian aviation rules.

In a separate incident yeaterday, a bag full of jewellery and Rs 9,200 in cash was found unclaimed at the airport.

The bag was deposited by CISF personnel with the airport operator as the passenger who left it had reached Hyderabad by the time he could be contacted.
