Asking for a little extra 'chutney' with a plate of momos from a roadside vendor cost a 24-year-old man dearly as he landed in a hospital's ICU after being badly thrashed by the owner. The incident took place in east Delhi's Trilokpuri Block 31 in Delhi on Thursday night.

The accused, identified as Kamal (40), has been booked under Section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the IPC and arrested by the police. However, Kamal narrated another version of the story and a cross FIR has also been registered in this connection.

Police have also booked the victim, identified as Sunny (24), along with his friends under Sections 323 (causing hurt) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the IPC. According to the victim's statement, Kamal allegedly started hitting Sunny indiscriminately with a rod when the later kept asking him for more chutney, despite being told that there was no more.

Both Sunny and Kamal are residents of Trilokpuri area. According to Kamal's complaint, when Sunny was denied chutney, he started abusing Kamal. This turned into a heated argument and soon snowballed into a fistfight.

Sunny then dialled a few numbers and allegedly called his local friends to thrash Kamal. "When Kamal's wife Nemwati and teenager son Akash tried to intervene, they were also allegedly beaten up by the youths... During the fight, Kamal allegedly hit Sunny with a rod and he collapsed," said a police official, quoting Kamal's complaint. Sunny was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital soon after the incident from where his family later shifted him to a private hospital and where he was admitted in the intensive care unit, said a police officer.
