After casting her vote during the Presidential election at the West Bengal Assembly on Monday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said the Trinamool Congress (TMC) will vote for UPA candidate Meira Kumar, but will respect Ram Nath Kovind if he wins.

Banerjee came down heavily on the government, saying the TMC was voting for Kumar to register their protest against the BJP government

"I have voted knowing that we will lose, but we have the courage to record our objections against the Centre. We are always pro-people. Our vote is against injustice and atrocities. In the name of gau-raksha, what is going on is 'gau-hinsa'. There is incessant interference in the federal structure of the country. They (BJP) are triggering riots across the country, and now they are looking at Bengal. Let them train their 'hanumans' first," Banerjee said.

Banerjee also added, "From note bandi to GST, everything needs to be discussed. We will protest against these. If they think they can resort to political vendetta by letting loose central agencies, such as the CBI, ED, and IT, then we are ready to go to jail as well."

The CM defined the present situation in the country as a 'super emergency', and said all Opposition voices have been gagged. She further said that she was speaking as a common citizen as well as a public representative, and urged all Opposition parties to unite. "The Centre is not only invading people's privacy in the name of Aadhaar card, but organisations such as Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) are training girls on how to use guns. I request all Opposition parties to come together for the sake of the common people. However, there are some forces which are lending support to the Centre out of fear," Banerjee said.

She was, however, quick to point out that she respected the chair of the President and will respect anyone who was elected to the post.
