West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday hit out at the ruling Bharatiya Janata (BJP) for targeting her government over the Saradha chit-fund scam and alleged that there are many other scams worth thousands of crores of rupees but no arrests have been made so far.

"Saradha scam started from 2006 but our government came to power after 2011……. Not only in Bengal, there are scams in other states also where no arrest has been made so far," Mamata told the media in New Delhi. "It s a five-year-old case…….. We have formed judicial commission, we have given back the money to five individuals after full recommendation of the commission but it didn't happen anywhere else," she added.

The TMC chief also supported her party MPs for raising their voice in the Parliament and said that it is absolutely okay. Mamata also questioned the BJP for calling for a discussion in the Parliament on  on the Saradha scam.

"Let them (BJP) do it, there are other scams also…… The culprits should be arrested but there are other scams in which nobody has been arrested," she added. West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra was yesterday produced before the Alipore Court in connection with the Saradha scam.

Taking strong exception to Mitra's arrest in connection with the scam, Mamata had earlier termed his arrest 'illegal and unconstitutional'. Last month, TMC MP Srinjoy Bose had been arrested by the CBI in connection with the scam. The West Bengal Chief Minister, who was talking to the media after meeting President Pranab Mukherjee who recently underwent an angioplasty, wished the latter a speedy recovery.
