West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday cautioned leaders of her Trinamool Congress against internal bickering and asked them to expedite development programmes as the party proposes to make development agenda a major tool for the assembly election slated to be held next year.

In her third district-level evaluation meeting with the leaders of Hooghly district, Banerjee underscored the need for highlighting development works undertaken by the government and not to be provoked by opposition parties before the assembly election. The Chief Minister also asked party leaders to spend wisely all development funds and complete all such works well before the state polls, a TMC leader said on condition of anonymity.

"There have been allegations of internal feud in the party following differences among party leaders which was posing a threat to various development works. Stop all these and follow the methodology on how to spend funds wisely and complete development projects before time," Banerjee was quoted to have said at the meeting. Apparently critical of the functioning of some TMC leaders in the district, Banerjee asked them to be sincere to their assignments and loyal to party guidelines, party leaders said.

She asked to utilise development funds as early as possible specially at Balagarh, Khanakul, Tarkeswar, Goghat and Chanditala areas of the district which have minority concentration, they added. In her two other such meetings on the last two Saturdays with TMC leaders of West Midnapore and Burdwan, Banerjee had asked the district leaders not to step into any kind of provocation of the 'Jatha' (rallies) of CPI(M).

She had even warned some leaders for having allegations of earning easy money against them. Between December 21 and 23, the Chief Minister will visit Nandigram, Nayachar and Digha, the leaders said.
On December 18 TMC secretary general and state Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim are likely to attend a rally at Singur to observe 'Tapasi Malik diwas'.

Tapasi was an active participant in the movement against land acquisition for the Tata Motors small car project at Singur and was raped and murdered before her body was set on fire in the fenced land for the plant on December 12, 2006.
