With 52 registered cases of measles in last six months, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has launched an all-out fight against the virus.

AMC will carry out a survey to assess the number of children who need the second dose of vaccination. This is the first time the civic body is carrying out a campaign to provide second dose of measles vaccination. The government of India introduced the second dose in 2010 after recommendations by national expert committees.

The civic body will also rope in the District Education Officer (DEO) to reach out to the maximum number of children. “The plan is to provide vaccination in municipal and private schools at the initial level. The list provided by the DEO will help to determine the number of children who need the shot. Also, centres across the city will be identified where vaccination can be given. For this, help will be sought from aanganwadi workers,” the official added. The civic body has also planned seminars to create awareness among parents and teachers.

The vaccination will be carried out from October 8 to 28,
