After the six political parties of the erstwhile 'Janata Parivar' have in principle agreed to merge, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday directed the Samajwadi Party activists to make a proposed sit in of the new alliance at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on December 22 a grand success.

"SP state president Akhilesh Yadav has sent a circular to all district unit heads, sitting and former MPs and MLA and other leaders to make the event successful," SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said.

Recently in a move aimed at consolidation of opposition forces, old samajwadis, including six constituents of the erstwhile 'Janata Parivar', have authorised SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav to work out the "modalities" in that direction in New Delhi.

After the meeting, JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar had told reporters that while the parties have been speaking in the same voice on issues of public interest in Parliament, they have decided to hold their first joint action by organising a 'dharna' outside its premises in Lucknow on December 22.

He said that the dharna was aimed at attacking the NDA government on the black money issue. He said that its pre-poll promise about bringing back black money to the country and using it to give Rs 15 lakh to every citizen has not been fulfilled.
