As per their website, Bhagyashri Dengle, Executive Director, Plan India shares, “Children and women are the most vulnerable in any disaster situation. From our experience of working extensively in disaster situations, we have learnt that child protection is a big concern because of lack of basic needs and secure shelter.”

She says that the organisation is "currently working closely with the government authorities in Uttarakhand. Plan India is supporting the ongoing relief efforts, and the disaster management team of Plan India is leading the joint rapid assessment of needs with the help of other international and bilateral agencies. Children are the most vulnerable in this situation and we are ensuring the food, shelter, water and protection reaches them in the affected areas of the state”, she adds.

As per the initial information received from Plan India’s volunteers in the affected areas, "cooked food is required for the initial three to four days. Dry ration and cooking materials are required during the coming days. Non-food items such as utensils, buckets, medicines, hygiene kits and soaps etc. are also immediately required."
