Goonj
Goonj, an NGO that has been working for the past 14 years on providing rehabilitation and relief in the face of several natural disasters, is now working in Uttarakhand and the larger Himachal Pradesh area. They are urgently appealing for donations towards its "Rahat Floods" campaign that aims to provide support to such victims. The Founder Director of Goonj, Anshu Gupta, makes an appeal for donors to help them with the following:
Material - Tarpaulins, mosquito nets, Dry ration (primarily-rice, pulses, biscuits) blankets and woolens, cooking utensils, buckets, torch and batteries, umbrellas, basic medicines, water purifier tablets, crutches, candles,lanterns, feeding bottles, rope. Also needed: Old flex banners, mats, sponsorship for sanitary pads & Sujnis.
Monetary contributions - for logistics and essential purchases.

Prime Minister's National Relief Fund
As our newspaper reported a few days ago, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has appealed to the people of India for donations to support the victims who have suffered "extensive devastation". This appeal came against the backdrop of the Prime Minister's announcement of Rs 1,000 crore for rescue and relief operations in the state, as our paper reported.
The Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) website says that they accept voluntary contributions from individuals, organisations, trusts, companies and institutions etc.

Plan India
Working in India for over 20 years, Plan India is a nationally registered child-centred Non Profit Organisation that has been working in North India ever since disaster first hit. As per their website, Bhagyashri Dengle, Executive Director, Plan India shares, “Children and women are the most vulnerable in any disaster situation. From our experience of working extensively in disaster situations, we have learnt that child protection is a big concern because of lack of basic needs and secure shelter.”
She says that the organisation is "currently working closely with the government authorities in Uttarakhand. Plan India is supporting the ongoing relief efforts, and the disaster management team of Plan India is leading the joint rapid assessment of needs with the help of other international and bilateral agencies. Children are the most vulnerable in this situation and we are ensuring the food, shelter, water and protection reaches them in the affected areas of the state”, she adds.
As per the initial information received from Plan India’s volunteers in the affected areas, "cooked food is required for the initial three to four days. Dry ration and cooking materials are required during the coming days. Non-food items such as utensils, buckets, medicines, hygiene kits and soaps etc. are also immediately required."

GiveIndia is the best platform to connect with several NGOs across the country, as the donation platform will allow you to support about 200 NGOs who all work for different causes and have been scrutinised for transparency & credibility by the organisation beforehand. One such organisation that they have tied up with is the Purkal Youth Development Society (PYDS), which is an Uttarakhand based NGO "that has has been working with local youth and women since 2001". They have launched a nationwide campaign to support the tragedy that has struck the state. They say, "we are hoping to coordinate with the government authorities and the armed forces and provide succor to the degree possible".
They stress the need for food packets and the subsequent requirements like blankets, clothes and building material which will help them to rebuild their lives. The

Uday Foundation
Uday Foundation is one of "India’s largest volunteers based non-governmental organization, with programs based on children healthcare, health rights advocacy and carrying out activities for children in hospitals". The organisation makes an appeal for the following items that can be sent directly to their address in Uttarakhand, or alternatively monetary contributions
