A day after the Indian Army ordered a court of inquiry into Major Nitin Leetul Gogoi’s `escapade’,  Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar has asked Jammu and Kashmir Police to submit a detailed report about the hotel incident by May 30.

Major Gogoi of 53 Rashtriya Rifles, who came into limelight for using 26-year-old youth Farooq Ahmad d Dar as human shield to negotiate stone pelting mobs last year, was caught with a young woman while trying to check-in at a local hotel in Srinagar on May 23.

Major Gogoi was detained by the police along with the woman and accomplice Sameer Malla after the hotel authorities reported the matter to the cops.

Police later handed him over to his unit after questioning. Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, SP Pani has ordered a high-level probe by Superintendent of Police, North City, to unravel the truth.

Chairman of the International Forum for Justice Human Rights Jammu and Kashmir Muhammad Ahsan Untoo approached the Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar praying for action against Major.

After perusal of the case, the magistrate directed Station House Officer of Police Station Khanyar to submit a detailed report in the matter.

However, a statement made by the young woman before a city magistrate under section 164 CrPC, soon after she was detained, has added a new dimension to the case.

Sources said she told the magistrate that she had gone with the armyman on her “free will”.

Sources said the woman maintained that she had become friends with Major Gogoi on Facebook who had created a fake profile by the name of Adil Adnan. Later when their friendship matured he revealed his original identity.

Since their friendship, the young woman noted, she has met Major Gogoi on several occasions.

Her mother, however, had told DNA that Major Gogoi and his accomplice Sameer Malla had visited their residence twice a few months ago.

"When he visited the first time it was late in the evening. When I saw him I fell unconscious. He was wearing pheran (long cloak). They did not give any reason for our visit.  They only inquired of our well being", she said.
