Cornering the Haryana government on rising incidents of rapes of women, the Mahila brigade of Congress - Sushmita dev, Kumari Selja and Kiran Chowdhary - on Saturday launched an attack on the chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar led BJP government and questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence.

"What is more appalling and shocking is the attitude of the Chief Minister Khattar ji who rather than concentrating on preventing such heinous crimes against women and taking serious action against the culprits of such rapes is more involved or focused more on making political statements and blame game," said Sushmita Dev, head of Mahila Congress.

She said a Congress delegation met the Governor of Haryana and gave a memorandum January 17 demanding instant action against the culprits, a free and fair investigation and apart from that not just relegate the remedy to a one time compensation of Rs. 4 lakh to the family of the victim but to give a permanent Government job to the victim family.

"The Kurukshetra girl who was raped and killed was a bright and young mind. She had scored 95% in her school and her parents had a dream that she will go on to become a professional and strengthen the family. Today if a girl of 15 is raped and killed, can any parent be compensated with a onetime compensation of Rs. 4 lakhs?," said Dev adding that If the Khattar Government is serious about helping these families, it should at least give permanent Government job.

"We want the Prime Minister Modi to seek answer to these questions when he speaks on radio to the Nation. We want to know does he still hold the same remedy that he had meted out to the UPA Government in asking for the resignation of the Prime Minister and asking for the resignation of the Delhi Chief Minister?"

Leader of the Congress legislative party in Haryana, Kiran Chowdhary said the Governor of Haryana has called the DGP asking to re-launch 'Durga' which means that Durga scheme to post women police officers outside schools and colleges was not functional.

"This shows the casualness, the casual attitude of the Chief Minister of Haryana who is not continuing preventive measures," she said.
