Maharashtra: Water department, FDA granted authority for employees' transfer

In a move to decentralise power, Maharashtra Government on Friday granted authority to Water Resources Department and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to transfer their officers. Water resources department has several A and B grade officers and employees, a press release issued by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' office said.

In water resources department, authority to transfer executive engineers lay with the Chief Minister. Now, Principal Secretary (water resources) can take the decision. Transfer of deputy engineers can be cleared by the chief engineer instead of the Water Resources Minister now.

Decision to transfer unit engineers, junior engineers, assistant engineers can be taken by the chief engineer in consultation with superintending engineer. Earlier, the powers rested with the Minister of State for Water Resources.

Similarly, transfers of drug inspectors can now be done by the FDA Commissioner. Drug inspectors, scientific officers, food safety officers and administrative officers transfers authority has been given to the commissioner.

Earlier, the powers were with the FDA Minister. There are 161 posts of drug inspectors, 265 posts of food safety officers.

Fadnavis expressed hope that decentralisation of transfer policy would yield good results in the long run and bring transparency and expedite administration.
