For the second time in the last eight days, a soldier from Maharashtra laid down his life in the line of duty on the LoC
The Line of Control (LoC) has literally become the Line of Conflict in Jammu and Kashmir. On Sunday, the Pakistan Army resorted to heavy shelling on the Indian forward posts and civilian areas, leaving two soldiers dead and five others, including two women, injured in Poonch and Krishna Ghati sectors of Jammu division.
For the second time in the last eight days, a soldier from Maharashtra laid down his life in the line of duty on the LoC. Naik Tukpare Rajendra Narayan of Karve village in Chandbad tehsil of Kolhapur was killed in the Pakistan shelling in Poonch sector. Earlier on October 29, Border Security Force (BSF) constable Koli Nitin Subhash of Sangli, Maharashtra, had died on the LoC in Machil.
The second deceased soldier was identified as Sepoy Gursewak Singh of 22-Sikh regiment. Singh hailed from Taran Tarn in Punjab, and was killed while foiling the Pakistan Army-backed infiltration bids in the Krishna Ghati sector.
Now, the number of soldiers killed in Pakistan firing and shelling on LoC and International Border (IB) since September 29, when the Indian Army had carried out surgical strikes on terror launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), has crossed 10. Nearly 12 civilians have also been killed in Pakistani action since the surgical strikes.
The latest provocation started on Saturday night, when the Pakistan Army tried to push in a group of militants into the Indian side from the Krishna Ghati sector. “The alert and vigilant troops observed suspicious movement and challenged the infiltrators. The infiltrators opened fire while trying to sneak back towards PoK,” said Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta, defence spokesman in Jammu.
