In a shocking incident, a Railway Police Force (RPF) constable in Maharashtra's Vasai allegedly thrashed a chaiwallah (tea vendor) for refusing to give him 'hafta', reported Mid-Day.

The incident took place late on Wednesday night, when 22-year-old Hari Singh, who sells tea and water at Vasai railway station, refused to give additional bribe to constable Dinesh Swami.

Hari Singh hails from Madhya Pradesh and stays with his brother in a rented flat in Vasai.

The report said that the constable broke three lathis beating the victim, however, the court let off him with a meagre fire of Rs 900.

Hari, who has been admitted to the hospital said that he earns around Rs 500 a day and most of the part goes on giving money to RPF constables.

"On Wednesday around 10:30 pm, constable Swami caught at the station and took me to their office and put me inside the lock-up. He has taken money from me on several occasions in the past for buying vegetables and even alcohol."

Hari further added that the constable was drunk and did not stop even when another police officer tried to intervene.
