Maharashtra: MP irrigation officer's son found begging at Jalgaon railway station, say police

A son of the irrigation officer from Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh was reportedly found begging at Jalgaon railway station in Maharashtra.

16-year-old Ramesh (name changed) is among the five children police claimed to have traced under the 'Operation Muskan' in Maharashtra.

According to Lokmat, Ramesh who had been surviving by begging at Jalgaon railway station, had left his home six years ago, after his father scolded him.

During inquiry, he told police, "As I was angry, I boarded a train heading towards Mumbai and got down at Jalgaon station. I have begging here for the last six years."

Ramesh's family resides in Gwalior and consists of his father, mother and two sisters.

"The child belongs to a well-to-do family. We have spoken to Gwalior police and have informed them about  Ramesh and details about his family members. Once we get in touch with them, we will hand him over to them," said sub-inspector Jija Gutte.

For the time being, the boy has been sent to a juvenile justice home.
