The Maharashtra state legislative council was adjourned four times on Thursday over a BJP minister using threatening language in the House.
BJP minister for the state Dilip Kamble threatened NCP MLC Amarsingh Pandit for asking multiple questions in the House on the issue of student scholarships. "Come out of the House, I will show you," said the BJP minister. This led to the opposition demanding an apology from Kamble for threatening the minister.
Chairman of the Upper House Ramraje Nimbalkar said that he has been in politics since the last 20-25 years, but had not heard such language being used inside the House. "Today's incident is very unfortunate. I am worried and concerned about the future of the House. If ministers start using such language, then how I will run the House? The minister should extend the apology," the chairman said.
Another senior Congress MLC and former chairman Shivajirao Deshmukh said it is the right of elected representatives to ask questions in the House.
"The minister has to prepare well to give satisfactory answers in the House. Merely expressing regrets over the use of such language cannot end the matter. The leader of the House has to apologise because the minister is part of the government," said Deshmukh.
