The trouble for senior IPS officer Sunil Paraskar, who has been accused of rape by a city-based model, seems to be increasing as the Maharashtra Home department has proposed suspending him from service.

"We have moved a proposal last week for suspending Paraskar", confirmed a senior home department officer.

The final decision will be taken by Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.

Paraskar was granted anticipatory bail on August 12, by a Mumbai sessions court. Paraskar had filed an anticipatory bail application before the sessions court on July 25, which had granted him interim protection till July 31.

Earlier, Rizwan Merchant, advocate for Paraskar had told the court, "Paraskar did not rape the model, rather the evidence that the police have produced before the court clearly shows she had consensual sex."

Political party Shiv Sena had also backed Parasker through its editorial in Samnaa saying, "The Shiv Sena extends its support to senior IPS officer Sunil Paraskar, who stands accused of rape by a Mumbai-based model. The editorial also questioned whether it went so far as to question whether it has become fashionable to level rape charges.

Maharashtra State Women's Commission had also written a letter to Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria on August 4, demanding suspension of senior IPS officer Sunil Paraskar.
