Maharashtra Gram Panchayat Elections: BJP leave Cong, Sena, NCP in the dust; win 1311 seats out of 3692

In the second phase of panachayat election in Maharashtra, the BJP did magnificently to win 1311 seats followed by Congress who finished a distant second with 312.

Sharad Pawar’s NCP came third with 297, while the Sena managed to capture 295 seats.

A total of 3692 gram panchayats spread over 16 districts went to polls in the second phase.

Hailing the performance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter: “Great result in Phase 2 of the Gram Panchayat polls! Thank you Maharashtra. The continued faith in BJP inspires us to work even harder.”

However, there was a minor jolt for Maha CM Fadanvis in his adopted village Fetri where the Congress-NCP backed candidate won. Dhanashree Dhomne of Congress-NCP alliance was elected as the sarpanch in Fetri village, adopted by the chief minister.

Transgender sarpanch elected

 In a first in Maharashtra, a transgender was today elected sarpanch of a gram panchayat in the state.
 

Dnyandev Shankar Kamble was declared elected sarpanch for the Tarangfal gram panchayat in Malshiras tehsil of Solapur district. Kamble defeated six other candidates.

Polling was held yesterday and results were declared today.

Elections were also held for panchayats in various parts of Maharashtra yesterday. Around 81 per cent polling was reported, a State Election Commission official said
