A high-powered committee (as cabinet sub-committee), under the chairmanship of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, will be constituted to monitor the implementation of the new housing policy for building affordable homes.

The committee will have on board ministers of housing, finance and revenue. It will meet as often as required but at least once in a quarter year for policy decisions regarding housing and reviewing policy implementation. The chief secretary will do the coordination between all secretaries involved in this.

"It will be dealt with effectively. Prompt decisions and actions by all secretaries, through various functionaries and authorities, need to be taken. It should be a successful mission. The chief secretary may be empowered sufficiently to take decisions for the success of this mission and realisation of the yearly goals," states the policy.

Senior government officials said if the CM is chairing the committee and personally monitoring the development, then it's a good move. "It is good that this government has taken the affordable housing issue on priority. Otherwise, developers make big houses which the common man cannot afford," an official said.
