Maharashtra government files petition in Supreme Court on reservations for Maratha community

The Maharashtra government has filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court seeking vacating of the interim stay on reservation for the Maratha community issued by the Bombay High Court. 

The SLP was filed on Friday following a meeting in Mumbai last week.

The state government had appointed a committee under State Education Minister Vinod Tawde to study legal angles after the High Court ordered interim stay on reservation for Maratha community. A meeting was held in Tawde’s chamber last week where legal opinions were discussed for further judicial processes. The SLP has been filed in accordance with advice received, Tawde said in a press release.

Attorney General Mukul Rohatagi, state Advocate General Sunil Manohar, seni or lawyer Darius Khambata and advocate PP Rao will argue on behalf of the state, Tawde further said.
