The farmers' protest in Maharashtra's Thane district opposing ​the Nevali airport turned violent after protesters torched vehicles and pelted stones.

Farmers have accused the Indian Navy of forcefully acquiring their land, disallowing them to farm.

Protesting farmers took to the street and torched vehicles and pelted stones at police personnel. Some policemen have been injured in the incident.

The protest is taking place on the Thane-Badlapur highway. Young men and women participated in the protest

Thane police have sent special forces and riot control vehicles to the spot.
