Maharashtra farmers to go on strike from June1

The farmers met CM Devendra Fadnavis, who assured them of a long-term solution, but didn't discuss loan waivers

Maharashtra farmers have decided to continue their agitation after their demand for waiver of loans was not met after meeting Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday.

Jayaji Suryavanshi, Vijay Kakade-Patil, Dhananjay Dhorde and other farmer leaders met Fadnavis at his official residence on Tuesday night.

Suryavanshi, who represents Kisan Kranti informed reporters that the CM gave a detailed report to the farmers about what the state government was doing to improve their lives. “The Chief Minister assured that he would come up with a solution, but we aren’t satisfied. We kept demanding that our loan be waived, but that wasn’t taken into consideration. We will go on strike from June 1,” he said.

Earlier, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana leader Raju Shetti has made it clear that his organization would support this decision of strike. Meanwhile, Raghunathdada Patil who did not participate in discussions with Chief Minister made it clear that his organisation would resort to strike from June 1. Patil has stronghold in western Maharashtra.
