A nine-year-old boy from Jalgaon, Maharashtra, lodged a complaint against his father for impeding his studies by watching television all through the day. Ajay Kumawat told the police that his father Laxman disturbs him while he is studying, and added that he also beats up his mother. Ajay said he had repeatedly requested his father to stop this disruptive behaviour, however, his plea fell on deaf ears. Agitated by the situation at home, the son was left with no choice but to approach the police for help.

Ajay lives in Bhusaval road area with his siblings. Ratna, his mother, stood with him. "While he studies, my husband watches TV which disturbs him," she said, emphasising that her son is determined to do well at school and study up to college level.

"We were astounded to see a small boy walking towards the police station amidst heavy rains," said Police inspector Pratap Ingle, of Jamner police station. "We listened to his ordeal and called his parents to the police station. We spoke to Ajay's father and advised him against continuing his behaviour." Hoping this would solve the matter, the police did not register Ajay's complaint.
