Urging the people of Maharashtra to come out and vote in huge numbers to bring much needed change in the state, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pankaja Munde on Wednesday expressed confidence that her party will be able to reach majority on its own.

"I want to say to the people of Maharashtra that this time they should bring change. Change of power in Maharashtra was my father's dream. Hope that the change that took place in the national elections will be reflected in the state elections as well. Unless the people come out and vote in huge numbers till then the nation won't change," Munde told ANI here.

The daughter of late union minister Gopinath Munde was confident about BJP reaching majority. "I think BJP will be close to attain majority," she said.

When asked about her chances of winning Assembly polls she added, "I am confident about my win, for me challenge is to match up to the expectations of people."

Pankaja Munde is an MLA from Beed. The polling for the Beed Lok Sabha seat by elections is also taking place today. The BJP has decided to field Gopinath Munde's other daughter Pritam for this seat. The by election was necessitated after the death of senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde.

Polling began this morning in Maharashtra's 288 assembly constituencies to elect a new Legislative Assembly in the state. The polling began at 7.00 am today and will conclude at 6.00 pm. The counting of votes will be held on October 19.
