Mahad Bridge Collapse: Guardian minister Prakash Mehta finds himself in controversies

A British-era bridge on the Mumbai-Goa Highway near Mahad in Maharashtra's Raigad district collapsed on Tuesday. Over 42 people are feared missing as two buses, one Honda City and one Tavera swept away in the swollen Savitri river. ANI reports state that seven bodies have been recovered through the rescue operations so far. Out of the seven bodies fished, three have been identified as that of females and four of males.

However, amidst the tragedy, Maharashtra State Guardian Minister for Raigad district and Cabinet Minister for Housing Prakash Mehta has been caught on camera reportedly taking a selfie when he visited the site of tragedy along with CM Devendra Fadnavis.

The TV report, draws parallel between Pankaja Munde's selfie incident, which she had clicked when she was on a visit to drought-hit Latur when she was handling the Water Conservation Ministry. 

In another incident, when a journalist from a Marathi news channel Saam TV, Milind Tambe asked Mehta about the family members of the victims who have not been provided any information about the tragedy, he lost his cool. He lambasted the journalist saying, "We will look into the matter. We sympathise with people who have been victims of the tragedy. You journalists are only concerned with TRPs. You people are here with your mics, do you understand anything about the tragedy? We have been in this field for 40 years, we know how to handle the situation."

The reporter further added that Mehta was asked about provisions for kin of victims, who have arrived at the spot to which he lost his cool and said the government has made arrangements. Some workers are also seen arguing with the reporter.
