The Telangana State IAS Officers Association today met state Chief Secretary SP Singh and urged that the investigation into the alleged "rash behaviour" by a ruling TRS MLA with Mahabubabad district collector this week be entrusted to a woman officer not below the rank of IG.

"B P Acharya IAS, the Association President, while representing the CS, has requested that the investigation be entrusted to a woman officer not below the rank of IG," a state government release said.

Acharya, a senior IAS officer, thanked Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and the chief secretary for their prompt action in the incident, it said.

The incident refers to the alleged "rash behaviour" of TRS MLA Shankar Naik towards the collector Preethi Meena during an official programme on July 12. An investigation by the police has already begun into the incident.

The MLA was arrested yesterday and later released on bail.

The Association representatives submitted a resolution, passed on the incident, to the chief secretary, the release said.

"The chief secretary heard the issue and thanked all for showing their solidarity to Dr. Preethi Meena. He said that government will take action as per law. He also said that women should be respected in the society and government will set up an institutional mechanism to prevent such incidents in future by setting up a grievance redressal cell," it added.
