Almost 28 years after BJP leader L K Advani had created a religious stir by taking out Ram Rath Yatra in 1990, a similar yatra is being taken out by a Maharashtra-based organization, Shri Ramdas Mission Universal Society, from Ayodhya to Rameshwaram on Mahashivaratri on February 13.
The RSS and its offshoot, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), have extended their open support to the proposed Ram Rath Yatra which will pass through six states including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu before culminating at Rameshwaram on Ram Navami day (March 25).
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is likely to flag off the Ram Rath Yatra on February 13 at Karsevakpuram in Ayodhya, which houses a VHP workshop for carving stones for construction of the proposed Lord Ram temple.
The Ram Rath Yatra will culminate in Rameshwaram on March 25 with a pledge to construct Lord Ram temple in Ayodhya at the earliest.
