73-year-old musician K Muthaiya, who plays Nadhaswaram, opted to beg in the Goundamapatti collectorate premises to protest against an official who demanded bribe to release his old age pension.

The Nadhaswaram player is eligible for the pension under Tamil Nadu government's old-age pension scheme for such artists. Over 8000 artists benefit from this monthly pension scheme.

Muthaiya alleged that Goundamapatti village administrative officer A Manjula sought a bribe of Rs 2000 to release the pension of Rs 1000 meant for the artist, reports leading newspaper.

Muthaiya demanded strict action against officials who harass underprivileged folk artists. He also wants government to ensure there are no hurdles for people of 60 years and above in availing regular pension.
