Madhya Pradesh: Two men impersonate Army officers to steal INSAS rifles, ammunition from Pachmarhi army camp

The suspects, wearing black tracksuits and black caps, identified themselves as Army officers to enter the camp.

Madhya Pradesh's Hoshangabad has been put on high alert after two unidentified people allegedly stole two INSAS rifles and as many as 20 rounds of live ammunition from the Pachmarhi Army Camp during wee hours on Friday.

The incident took place at midnight around 12:30 am when two suspects entered the camp. The suspects, wearing black tracksuits and black caps, identified themselves as Army officers to enter the camp.

They reportedly stole the rifles at around 2:30 am from the Army Education Centre area in the camp. 

"We received information today morning that two unidentified suspects disguised as military officers had entered the Pachmarhi Army Camp and stole two INSAS rifles. The suspects were wearing black tracksuits and black caps," ML Chhari, SP, Hoshangabad, said.

Chhari further said the suspects had arrived at the camp using a taxi from Pipariya town, and later returned to the Pipariya railway station after committing the crime. 

The top cop said all the four-wheelers and various buses are being checked to nab the accused. The police has been able to seize the vehicle used by the suspects.

"We have issued a high alert, and imposed blockades all over the district. The Railway department has also been informed of the situation and instructed to check all passengers, to help nab the accused," he said.
