Madhya Pradesh building steel silos for foodgrain storage in 9 districts, claims Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Vijay Shah

In a first in the country, steel silos for food grain storage are being built in nine districts of Madhya Pradesh, Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Vijay Shah on Tuesday said.

"The steel silos for storing food grains are being constructed for the first time in the country at Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, Vidisha, Sehore, Harda, Hoshangabad and Satna districts through public-private-partnership," Shah said, speaking to reporters in Bhopal.

"This initiative is being praised at the national and the international levels and other states too are implementing it," the minister said adding that It would increase food grain storage capacity in Madhya Pradesh by 2.50 lakh MT.

The minister also said that the union ministry of chemicals and fertilisers had chosen the Madhya Pradesh Warehousing and Logistics Corporation for the fourth national award for technology innovation, 2013-14 for this initiative.

He also mentioned that the state government had provided food grains (wheat, rice and salt) at Rs one per kg to 3.88 crore people under the Food Security Act, 2013.
