Madhya Pradesh: Army helicopter to rescue stranded people in flood-affected Satna

Flood-like situation is being reported from Madhya Pradesh's Satna region on Saturday with water entering residential areas. An Army helicopter reached Satna to rescue people stranded in flood affected areas, ANI reported.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has called for an emergency meeting to review heavy rainfall and flood situation.

The region has received heavy rains for the last three days. There has been heavy rainfall in the state since July, leaving 30 people dead. Of the 51 districts in the state, 23 the 51 have been affected by the ensuing floods. Vindhya region since last three days. Incessant rains have badly affected normal life in Vindhya and Bundelkhand regions of Madhya Pradesh.  Major rivers and streams including Son, Ken and Tamas are in spate in the regions. Rewa, Satna, Sidhi, Chattarpur, Panna, Katni, Damoh and some other districts are facing flood like situation. 

Excessive water is being released from most of the dams in these areas.  Traffic at several places has been disrupted due to flood water. The district administration has announced a holiday in schools in Sidhi, Katni and other districts.

The army is assisting in relief and rescue operations in rural areas of Rewa district where several villages have been inundated.  The road connectivity has been badly disturbed in several districts as major rivers and streams are overflowing. 

The Met Department has predicted heavy showers in the next 24 hours at several places in northern and western Madhya Pradesh.
