A seven-member parliamentary delegation led by Fidel Espinoza, President of the Chamber of Deputies of National Congress of Chile (Lower House) called on M Venkaiah Naidu, Vice President and Chairman, Rajya Sabha, on Monday.

Naidu congratulated Chile for carrying out the presidential, parliamentary and regional elections in November and December, 2017, successfully. Additionally, he thanked the India-Chile Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Chamber of Deputies led by Loreto Carvajal for sponsoring the first-ever celebration of the International Day of Yoga in the Chilean Parliament in June 2017.

He also acknowledged Chile's support for India's candidature for a permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), and in particular, for supporting India's candidate — Judge Dalveer Bhandari — to be re-elected to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Naidu also said he hopes that Chile would extend their support for India's candidature for a non-permanent seat in the UNSC for the 2021-22 period, too.
