Within days of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's strong criticism on increasing lynching incidents by Gau Rakshaks (Cow Vigilantes) at Mahatma Gandhi's Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) sought to downplay its aggressive posturing on Gau Raksha on Tuesday.

"There is no place for violence in the pious work of Gau Sewa. But when the names of VHP and Bajrang Dal is taken without any evidence it makes clear the conspiracy behind it," Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) International joint secretary, Surendra Jain said.

Lambasting Gau Rakshaks at Sabarmati on June 30, a day after massive showing of spontaneous protest 'Not in My Name' across 10 cities in India, Modi had said "killing people in the name of Gau Bhakti (cow worship) is unacceptable. This is not something Mahatma Gandhi would approve."

Trying to wriggle out of the widespread condemnation of Hindu right wing organisation, Jain accused the meat lobby for conspiring and maligning the holy vow of cow-protection.

Giving 'Not in My Name' attendees the term of Award Wapsi Brigade Part-II, Jain said, "There is a belief that strong meat lobby is behind these protests and Jihadis and Leftists have come together to conspire against Gau Rakshaks who are victims and not tyrants as some people are trying to establish," he said.

"In last 10 years more than 50 policemen and Gau Rakshaks (cow protectors) were killed by the cow killers. These killers or jihadis have brutally murdered the innocent committed for the cause of cow protection," he added.

He asked the BJP to relook at its promise to bring a strong law for cow protection that will put an end to this situation.
