Lucknow: Moneylender raided, 100 kgs gold, Rs 10-cr cash found

In the last two days of the raid, the IT department has so far recovered Rs 10 crore in cash and over 100 kg of gold bricks, bars, biscuits and jewellery worth over Rs 30 crore.

Touted as one of the biggest haul in recent times, the Income Tax (IT) department recovered over 100 kgs of gold and Rs 10-crore cash in high denomination currency from a money lender in old Lucknow.

Led by Principal Director (Investigation) Amarendra Kumar and Additional Director Pooja Raj, the IT sleuths conducted raids at eight premises of Kanhaiya Lal Rastogi in Lucknow and Mumbai on Wednesday, after keeping an eye on his business transactions for the past six months.

In the last two days of the raid, the IT department has so far recovered Rs 10 crore in cash and over 100 kg of gold bricks, bars, biscuits and jewellery worth over Rs 30 crore.

Besides this, the department also unearthed unaccounted income and investment worth over Rs 100 crore during the raid, which was still on.

Rastogi, his wife Anita, sons Umang and Tarang were directors in a firm run by him. He was mainly involved in money-lending in barter for gold and property.
