LTC scam: JD(U) suspends Anil Sahni from its Parliamentary Board

The Janata Dal (United) on Sunday suspended its Rajya Sabha MP Anil Sahni from its parliamentary board over his alleged role in the Leave and Travel Concession (LTC) scam, after his reply to a show cause notice failed to satisfy the party leadership.

"Anil Sahni has not been able to satisfy party or the Rajya Sabha chairman with his answers. Party is serious on the issues related to corruption, there for he has been suspended from the party's parliamentary board," JD (U) leader K.C.Tyagi told ANI.

Rajya Sabha chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari had on April 15 given his approval to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to prosecute Sahni for his alleged role in the LTC scam. The Janata Dal (United) had then sent a showcause notice to Sahni seeking his explanation.

The scam relates to reimbursements being claimed against fake boarding passes and bills from the Rajya Sabha Secretariat. The CBI had filed a chargesheet against Sahni and three others in the scam in October last year.

The agency had sought a prosecution sanction against Sahni, but went ahead and filed the chargesheet due to a delay in the process.

Besides Sahani, others named in the CBI charge sheet were Anup Singh Panwar, an employee of Delhi-based Air Cruise Travels Private Limited, N S Nair, then Office Superintendent (Traffic), Air India and Arvind Tiwari, a private person. All Parliamentarians (both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha) get 34 free air tickets in a year for themselves, their family members and associates for domestic travel to their constituencies.
