The woman who was set to marry soon was found tied up by her father after their house was burgled, It was alleged that thieves stole Rs 20 lakh in cash and jewellery.
The police were informed about the robbery on Tuesday afternoon. DCP (north-east) Ajit Singla formed several teams, led by ACP (Seelampur) Shashank Jaiswal, to investigate the case.
They questioned several 'criminals' in the area and scrap dealers and vegetable vendors but were unable to unearth substantial leads. They even scanned CCTV cameras in the areas but still found no clue.
However, soon the police arrested the businessman's soon-to-be married daughter and her 34-year-old boyfriend Anees for staging the crime. It was love bites on the woman's neck that made the police suspicious about the whole incident, according to a TOI report.
When the cops interviewed her, they found her statements inconsistent and found her phone formatted. Her phone details were carefully examined and police found a man who was in regular touch with her and was present when the dramatic incident was staged.
Arshad informed the police that he and his family had gone for shopping for their daughter's marriage scheduled for next month.
The women's boyfriend was arrested after they went in to the house to question the woman about the robbers identity.
All the valuables were recovered by the police, DCP Singla confirmed.
The couple revealed they were planning for an escapade after stealing money from the women's house. The women also revealed during questioning that her parents were forcibly trying to get her married to a doctor. She claimed that she had already married Mohammad Anees in 2015. However, she was scared to inform them about her marriage as they both belonged to different caste.
The duo were presented before a magistrate who sent them to 14 days custody in Tihar jail.
