Even as India described Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's remarks on Kashmir as "deeply regrettable" on Monday, Foreign Secretary Vijay Keshav Gokhale is scheduled to brief a parliamentary panel on the current status of India-Pakistan relations on Friday.
Imran had decried the "new cycle of killings of innocent Kashmiris" in a tweet, and repeated his stance that the solution to the region's dispute was in dialogue.
Responding to this, external affairs ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said instead of making comments on India's internal affairs, Pakistan leadership should look inwards and address its own issues. "Pakistan would serve the interest of the people of the region by taking credible action against support to terrorism and terror infrastructure in areas under its control," he said, adding that Pakistan's deceitful stand on dialogue while also supporting terrorism and violence stood exposed to the world.
Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Vijay Keshav Gokhale is scheduled to brief a parliamentary panel on India-Pakistan relations on Friday. Congress president Rahul Gandhi is a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs headed by senior party leader Shashi Tharoor.
An MP member of the panel said they would like to know and understand the status of relations between the two countries and the direction it was moving in. "We want to have a comprehensive discussion on relations between the two countries, as it is important for national security," he said.
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had decried the “new cycle of killings of innocent Kashmiris”, and said dialogue was the only solution to the region’s disputes.
