London, Bangkok, NY, most searched travel spots by Indians

London tops the list of most searched global summer holiday destination by Indians followed by Bangkok and New York according to a recent survey.

Against the three all-time favourite destinations London, New York, and Dubai, cities like Abu Dhabi and Bangkok along with Paris and Toronto are fast becoming hotspots for Indian travellers, according to global travel search site Skyscanner.

"We have seen a 65% year on year increase in outbound travel amongst Indian travellers this summer holiday. Based on our data, Indians are becoming more experimental when it comes to travelling abroad," says Kavitha Gnanamurthy, Senior Marketing Manager, Skyscanner India.

"In the spirit of exploration, they are looking for longer, more expensive trips and are searching for newer destinations," she says. London emerged as most popular destination with staggering 53 % increase in overall searches from India, the survey says.

Known as capital of afternoon tea, alongside the Big Ben and the Thames, London offers travellers a mix of Roman history and modern culture from royalty to the people's parliament, from Roman ruins to castles and cathedrals.

Upcoming events this month and in July include the 'Taste of London' festival, Wimbledon 2015 and the Queen's birthday. According to Skyscanner, tourists stay an average of 22 days in London. With a 119% year on year increase in searches from India, Bangkok, with its ancient sites, cheap shopping, delicious Thai food, never-ending nightlife and exotic beaches remains a hot favourite this season for Indian travellers.

With an added benefit of a visa-less travel, visitors from India can also look forward to the Amazing Thailand Grand Sales from mid-June to September end. The survey puts the average length of the stay for Indian travellers in Bangkok at 7 days.

With a 40% surge in searches Year on Year, the city is third most popular global destination amongst Indians. The average length of stay for Indian travellers has been surveyed to be about 33 days. With a Year on Year increase of 12%, Glitzy Dubai of high-rises and shopping malls, desert safari and dune bashing, pristine beaches and indoor ski slopes continues to find itself amongst the most preferred international destinations by Indians, says the survey.
