Lok Sabha MP Mohan Delkar found dead in Mumbai, police suspect suicide

Mohan Delkar was Congress president of Dadra and Nagar Haveli when he quit the party in 2019 to contest the national election as an independent.

Mohan Delkar, an independent MP, was found dead on Monday in a Mumbai hotel, under the limits of the Marine Drive police station. Delkar was the MP from the Lok Sabha seat of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. He had represented Dadra and Nagar Haveli in parliament since 2004.

The 58-year-old politician's body was found at Hotel Sea Green Marine Drive in south Mumbai. The police are at the spot. A suicide note has also been found.

Mohan Delkar was Congress president of Dadra and Nagar Haveli when he quit the party in 2019 to contest the national election as an independent.

Delkar was in May 2019 elected to the 17th Lok Sabha, his seventh term in the House.

He was a member of the Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice and also a member of the Consultative Committee, Ministry of Home Affairs of the Lower House.

Delkar's body has been sent for postmortem. Further investigation is underway.
