With the completion of four phase polling in 48 Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra, political parties have started number crunching. The BJP- Shiv Sena alliance hopes to bag between 38 and 45 seats. The saffron parties believe they will improve tally as voters seem to have accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for a 'Majboot government' over the Opposition's 'Mahamilavat' government. Also, Modi's surgical strike in Pakistan Occupied Area after attack on CRPF jawans has gone down well with first-time voters.

The Congress and NCP, which fought the polls with 54 other smaller parties and organisations, hope to ride on the anti-incumbency and win 22 to 24 seats.

BJP spokesperson and former legislator Kanta Nalawade said, "Symmetry and micro-planning between BJP, Sena and RPI in all 48 seats, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis' pro development, and Modi's leadership played a major role to reach out to voters."

A basic analysis of percentage of votes polled in Congress and BJP strongholds in the city reveals that the BJP- Sena combine has a clear lead in 4 out of 6 constituencies. In the Mumbai South constituency, Mumbadevi and Colaba assembly constituencies, traditionally Congress strongholds have recorded 48.33% and 45.16% polling respectively. Malabar Hill and Byculla recorded 56.08% and 54.56% polling. These areas can sway either towards the BJP or the Congress. But a high polling in Shiv Sena bastions like Sewri (52.68%) and Worli (51.08%) may be a cause of concern for Congress's Deora.

In Mumbai South Central, sitting Sena MP Rahul Shewale battled it out with Congress's Eknath Gaikwad. Dharavi, a traditional Congress stronghold recorded only 48.09% voting, a worry for the Congress. As far as Chembur (56.73 %) and Anushaktinagar (55.98%) assembly segments are concerned, Chembur could throw a mixed mandate while Anushaktinagar is advantage for Sena.

However, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman and state NCP spokesman Nawab Malik said that the Opposition will cross half the mark. They attributed Opposition's improved performance to farm distress, Modi government's failure to deliver its promises, rising unemployment and anger in dalit, adivasis and minorities.

In Mumbai North sitting MP Gopal Shetty has an upper hand over Congress's Urmila Matondkar. In this constituency BJP has four MLAs and one Shiv Sena MLA while Congress has only Aslam Shaikh in Malad West. BJP stronghold Borivali recorded the highest 66.19% voting. Dahisar with a significant Gujarati population recorded 62.39%, while Kandivli recorded 55.71% polling. Charkop has 60.80% while Magathane has 57.72% polling. Malad West has 56.92% polling. Seeing the record high number of polling in traditional BJP areas the scales may tip in favour of the BJP.

In Mumbai North Central, sitting BJP MP Poonam Mahajan fought it out with Congress's former MP Priya Dutt. Here, Kurla recorded 51.29% voting and Kalina recorded 55.6% voting. Chandivli has sizeable minority, who are in favour of Dutt. Vile Parle, a Sena stronghold recorded 61.02%. Bandra East and West recorded 52.74% and 52.45% respectively. While Bandra (E) favours Dutt, Bandra West is a mix bag.

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray's media advisor Harshal Pradhan said.'' Voters were quite impressed with PM Modi's Vikas Purush image, CM's image of being transparent and non-corrupt and the call by Uddhavji and Aadityaji for strong government at the Centre. The Sena-BJP-RPI (A) will win between 40 and 45 seats.''

In Mumbai North West, the fight is between Sena's Gajanan Kirtikar as sitting MP and former MP Sanjay Nirupam. Goregaon recorded 62.78% voting where North Indian votes are considerable. Versova has recorded 48.31% polling which may favour Kirtikar. Andheri (W) and Andheri (E) recorded 50.16% and 57.31% voting. Jogeshwari, a minority stronghold recorded 60.36% voting, which will favour Nirupam.

In Mumbai North East, BJP newbie Manoj Kotak is fighting against former NCP MP Sanjay Patil. Mulund recorded 63.66% polling while Ghatkopar East and West have recorded 55.89% and 61.27% respectively. This may favour Kotak. Vikhroli and Bhandup which recorded 57.30% and 58.98%, gives Patil an edge.
