In a significant move, the BJP has decided to drop all 10 sitting MPs in Chhattisgarh, a state where the party suffered drubbing in the 2018 Assembly polls.
"The party has decided to field new candidates with fresh vigour," said Anil Jain, BJP national general secretary and Chhattisgarh in-charge.
Party sources suggest that it was the Chhattisgarh unit of BJP which had made the proposal to drop the sitting MPs to which the party's Central Election Committee gave its nod. The state has 11 Lok Sabha constituencies and in the 2014 elections the BJP had won 10 seats.
Party sources further suggest that former chief minister and party's national vice president Raman Singh will be fielded from Rajnandgaon, a Lok Sabha constituency currently held by his son Abhishek Singh.
With this the BJP is abuzz with speculation over the fate of some its sitting MPs in other states also. It could be noted that the BJP had conducted popularity test of its sitting MPs, sought feedback from a number of sources, including the public. The party had asked all its sitting MPs to furnish details of the works they had carried out in the last five years ahead of final selection of candidates.
BJP president Amit Shah Tuesday targeted Congress chief Rahul Gandhi over the alleged "arrest" of some techies in Bengaluru for raising pro-Modi slogans, saying youngsters give direction to the future and he should "stop intimidating youth of India, which has rejected your brand of politics".
