Local train hits buffer at Sealdah station, no casualty

An EMU local hit the buffer of a platform at the Sealdah terminal station here, causing derailment of two wheels of a compartment, an Eastern Railway official said.

No passenger or any other person on the platform suffered any injury, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Sealdah, Basudev Panda said.

The Down Sonarpur-Sealdah local train hit the buffer of platform 13 in Sealdah South section at 10.20 am, he said.

"A train is supposed to stop four to five metres before the buffer, but despite being at a very slow speed, it overshot and hit the buffer," Panda said.

Two wheels of the front compartment of the train got derailed under the impact of the collision.

An inquiry has been ordered into the accident and the motorman (driver) of the train has been suspended, the DRM said.
