Ramnath Yuva Sangh, a local social outfit in Ramnati-Bandora village – where Sanatan Sanstha has an ashram – has demanded that the ashram be thrown out of the village.
Sanatan Sanstha, the controversial right wing organisation which hit the headlines for the murder of rationalist Govind Pansare, is facing the heat from other quarters as well.
Ramnath Yuva Sangh, a local social outfit in Ramnati-Bandora village – where Sanatan Sanstha has an ashram – has demanded that the ashram be thrown out of the village.
According to Saurabh Lotlikar, the president of the outfit and son of an elected representative to the gram panchayat, "people here do not want them in the locality because no one knows what they do."
The 23-year-old Saurabh Lotlikar, whose mother is an independent member in the panchayat, alleges that Sanstha trains people to target others, which people have seen from outside. "With all the news appearing, people are suspicious and do not want them to be here," he said.
Among other things, he alleged that the Sanstha has been having issues with local people and their "other activities" have put a question mark on their status as a spiritual organisation.
"We are not saying they be banned; we want them thrown out of the village. We have with us a letter from the district hospital that they had passed on to police. The letter states that they were provided with 2,900 condoms. Why does a spiritual organisation requires condoms? We understand Hinduism more than them. We do not need them to teach us that," said Lotlikar.
Lotlikar said that a complain against the organisation was made last year after they assaulted children of the village for trying to find out the goings on at the ashram. "A protest rally was organised by a Janjagruti group last year," he pointed out.
According to Lotlikar, the Sanstha is growing with every passing day, "and they are not interacting with rest of the society". "They have been obtaining election ID-cards and slowly they will have be in a majority that they will not even require us," added Lotlikar.
When contacted, Abhay Vartak, member of the Sanstha said, "Lotlikar is politically motivated. When some demanded a ban on Sanstha, our supporters took out a rally in protest, which was attended by thousands. With respect to the 'condom story', I wan't to clarify that I have not seen any such letter. I stay with my family inside the ashram and so do many others. How could anyone live with his family there if something wrong is happening?
All these allegations are to only defame us."
