The High Court directed the state government to immediately furnish the reservation list of all 2009 urban local bodies.

The State Election Commission (SEC) on Tuesday urged the High Court to direct the state government to immediately furnish the reservation list of all 2009 urban local bodies.

The counsel for SEC said they have sought directions, so as to conduct election to those bodies, whose term ends between February and March 2013. It intends to hold elections to these bodies between December and January.

“The district commissioners will be busy with preparation for the upcoming state assembly elections in the beginning of next year and it would be difficult to hold elections to urban local bodies,” SEC petition said.

Electoral rolls: HC notice to poll panel, BBMP
The high court on Tuesday issued notices to the election commission of India, state chief electoral officer and the BBMP concerning a PIL relating to revision of electoral rolls.

The petitioners contended that the names of 13 lakh voters have been deleted from voter’s list and there were several other discrepancies.
